SYKY on Apple Vision Pro
The background
Luxury digital fashion platform SYKY wanted to launch the first interactive fashion app on Apple Vision Pro to immerse its community in the world of luxury craft and design. They approached UNIT9 with their vision of an immersive world – one that seamlessly integrates digital elements into the physical environment through Apple’s spatial capabilities. This was to be a space where leading designers could present their work and fashion enthusiasts could get hands-on in mixed reality.
The execution
Directed by SYKY’s creative brief, we worked with their creative team to build the debut experience over a period of three months, exploring the capabilities of the visionOS platform, the Apple Vision Pro and spatial computing as a whole to bring the immersive world to life and showcase avant-garde Japanese label Anrealage.
Visitors start their experience in a photorealistic piazza, dreamt up by SYKY and placed by us as a mixed-reality window in the real-world environment. Using a custom workflow, we added 3D elements to subtly blur the boundaries between digital and physical, immersing visitors somewhere in-between.
Next, visitors are transported into a bespoke designer’s space for a detailed look at their work. In this instance, the centrepiece was Anrealage’s exquisite Pyramid Dress. We leveraged the visionOS development kit’s interaction system so that the dress – integrated as a high-fidelity 3D asset – can be rotated and customised by the user, with new patterns and textures applied by robotic UV arms.
SYKY requested a variety of interaction methods to enrich the experience and add deeper layers of storytelling using Apple Vision Pro’s multi-modal controls. So we made use of gaze tracking, pinch and drag gestures to make the experience as intuitive and hands-on as possible.
SYKY and the Anrealage team also produced a suite of spatial videos with Anrealage’s founder, legendary designer Kunihiko Morinaga, where he discusses the collaboration and reflects on the future of fashion. These rich storytelling pieces take visitors behind the scenes of the experience and into the mind of the designer. We placed the spatial videos as separate content windows beside the Pyramid Dress, so that visitors could interact with the piece while being enveloped in the storytelling, deepening the connection between designer and audience.
The results
SYKY on Apple Vision Pro pioneers the future of fashion in the era of spatial computing, placing designer creativity and audience interaction at its heart. We can’t wait to see how SYKY’s app evolves as it pushes the boundaries of technology to produce more curated works with leading fashion houses.
