Lifesaver VR
VR that makes you feel you've saved a life
LIFESAVER VR will give you the feeling that you’ve saved someone’s life. And by playing it, you really will be empowered to save lives. It’s an interactive VR game. Users have to save lives by making smart choices and performing CPR, while watching a story in a live action 360 film. UNIT9 created the experience in collaboration with director Martin Percy, plus paramedics, doctors and the Resuscitation Council (UK). It’s a new kind of VR for good – teaching medicine and science in a whole new way.
The story
Lifesaver VR is the story of a young woman fighting to save the life of her friend – who’s had a cardiac arrest. You have to guide her to make smart choices fast. You must completely engage with your body to do CPR – pushing down hard two times a second on a cushion in real life to save the friend in VR. Get things wrong, and the friend will die. Get things right, and sense the thrill of saving a life.
The results
Lifesaver VR delivers results. In tests with a selection of schoolchildren, teenagers’ confidence in performing CPR increased from 38% to 85%. And all those tested said they were more likely or MUCH more likely to perform CPR in a real emergency.
The tech
To scale this experience to as many people as possible, we built it for Google Cardboard running on iOS and Android devices. The app uses the accelerometer in your phone. So that when you do CPR, the app gives you feedback on how well you’re doing – and changes the film you see depending on your performance.
The output
Lifesaver VR will give you the feeling that you’ve saved someone’s life – and teach you medicine and science in a whole new way. See more of UNIT9’s VR work here.
