The high-five is a universally approachable gesture and one we all need in 2020.
Xiaomi wanted to encourage creators to celebrate creativity and spread positivity. So we started a campaign to spread virtual high-fives around the world.
The execution
Xiaomi Redmi Note Series: The High 5 Challenge was a quest to create the longest-ever high-five chain on TikTok using creativity. We asked creators to film themselves receiving a high-five and passing it to the next person. Doing so also gave them a chance to win a Redmi Note 9 Series Phone—a device that high-fives your creativity back.
Each high-five video was more creative than the last. From dancing to motorsport stunts to acrobatics and more, people found very clever ways to pass their virtual high-fives. When watched in succession, they formed an epic never-ending high-five chain. The record-breaking chain of videos is fun to watch, but the uplifting message is even more powerful: When you push yourself to live in a world without fear, incredible things happen.
Just as participants in the Xiaomi Redmi Note Series: The High 5 Challenge got creative on camera, we had to get creative behind the scenes to ensure a seamless experience on a very tight deadline. Our team really went the extra mile to get everything live, and seeing how much fun people had with the challenge made it all worth it.
The results
The campaign received a ton of press, and a quick scroll through #TheHigh5Challenge on TikTok and Instagram shows how much fun people of all ages had participating. We’re proud to have generated so much positivity using just creativity, and we’re glad to have encouraged creative thinking and inspired people to get out of their comfort zones during a difficult year.
