TikTok: O2 Bubl Effect
The background
O2 wanted to bring Bubl, their loyal and lovable blue mascot, into people’s homes in a creative way. So we created a Branded Effect for TikTok to challenge users to film entertaining, fun videos with the robot.
The execution
The #O2BublHandshake campaign let people on TikTok perform a complicated handshake with Bubl. We created a 3D Branded Effect that made it look like Bubl was there in the creator’s home with them. The handshake had six steps, and each was a challenge to learn, even for the most coordinated. The team did a fantastic job, and we matched the Bubl FBX model perfectly in just a few days. While working out the best handshake moves, we improved our hand-eye coordination, too.
When we received a brief for a 3D Branded Effect, it was exciting for our whole team. We continue to push TikTok’s platform to the limits. Each effect creates unique challenges, but the team always feel a sense of satisfaction when we’re done.
The results
The #O2BublHandshake challenge spread quickly, earning tens of thousands of views on TikTok and counting. The eye-catching effect seamlessly blended into feeds amongst dance videos and other challenges. Every time a new creator took part, other users couldn’t resist learning the handshake and joining the fun. The effect successfully drove home the message that Bubl, the ever-helpful O2 robot, continues to help the nation as they enter the homes of every customer and provide the best possible service, experience, and interaction on O2’s network.
