Nike x PSG: Shirt AR Viewer
The background
2020 is the 50th anniversary of the Paris Saint-Germain Football Club. To honor the milestone, the Parisians reissued Daniel Hechter’s iconic red and blue kit design. They wanted to make the launch extra special, so we created an AR experience to celebrate his craftsmanship and 50 years of unmatched Parisian style.
The execution
The Nike x PSG webAR experience lets you place the club’s shirt anywhere in the
frame and toggle between the home design and the away design. The shirt activates hotspots with information about the history of PSG, Daniel Hechter’s storied relationship with the club, and Nike’s groundbreaking VaporKnit technology. There are even a few sneaky Easter eggs for fans to find, including a delivery code for free next-day delivery.
While the UI is relatively simple, the design and technology behind the experience are anything but. We built the project using 8th Wall, a web-based image recognition software and optimized it to be accessed through the Nike app. Our team worked tirelessly on the visual quality of the shirt, optimizing the mesh and the textures to make it look as close to the real thing as possible while still maintaining peak performance.
PSG was so happy with the final look of the shirt that they asked us for our files so they can use them in future projects—the highest compliment our team can receive. All of the hours spent perfecting the look of the historic shirt were well worth it.
The results
The Nike x PSG webAR experience celebrates the club’s history while also looking toward the future. It was fun to honor Daniel Hechter’s iconic design and remember that together, we are invincible.
