Simon Neal

A versatile director equally at home with long or short form storytelling.

Simon is a director of TV comedy, drama and commercials.

He began his career at the BBC, where he wrote and directed a multitude of award-winning trailers and idents. He quickly progressed into commercials with an acclaimed PSA for Cancer Research UK, which won him Best New Director at the BTAAs and a Bronze Lion at Cannes.

Simon’s short film WASHDAYS premiered at Palm Springs and played at over 20 international film festivals. It won Best Film at Rushes Soho Shorts, Special Jury prize at Austin and was nominated for a British Independent Film Award.

His TV credits include DOUGHNUTS, a half hour single comedy for Channel 4, series 2 of the acclaimed comedy drama YOUNGERS for Big Talk, praised by the Observer as ‘Tender, topical, truthful. A gem’, and RUE BOY, a spoken word film that was broadcast by Channel 4 in their Random Acts strand.

Simon recently directed series 2 of BAFTA winning CHEWING GUM for Channel 4. Described by The New Statesman as “Hilarious…Achingly relatable” and “Magnificently filthy wit” by The Evening Standard, The Guardian proclaimed it “The future of comedy”, no less.
